About Alan Browne

Alan Browne Gauges is a UKAS calibration accredited laboratory (Lab No 0155) offering a manufacturing, calibration, replacement, measurement, servicing and repair facility. Inaugurated in Leamington Spa in 1961 by the founder Alan Browne, with its permanent on site temperature controlled calibration laboratory, it quickly grew to become one of the most highly regarded laboratories in the world.

Its international reputation and track record for calibration, Interferometry and measurement goes back 45 years. With more than 850 active customers it can help your company maintain its own high standards of accuracy, measurement, and traceability. Alan Browne Gauges is also a full member of the high profile Gauge and Toolmakers Association (GTMA).

Alan Browne Gauges offer a reliable calibration service completed in 5 working days from receipt of set unless quoted differently. Faster “Gold Star Service” (24 hours) turn around is possible for comparative measurements if required, this and other levels of service are available subject to quotation.

Most of the popular individual slip gauge blocks are held in stock for a fast and efficient delivery service. Sets of gauge blocks whether recalibrated or new are sent to the customer packaged in its own custom multi reusable tough packaging.It manufactures its own in house brand of DuraGrade Steel gauge blocks in all grades from 2, 1 and 0 to the “K” “00” grade and it remains one of the prime sources of steel “K” grades.

Its utter confidence in its own DuraGrade brand of gauge blocks enables it to offer an absolutely unique TWO YEAR wear warranty on all sets of O, 1 and 2 grades. This wear claim is backed by the wear levels statistics accumulated over many years of comparison of supply to industry.

It has been responsible for and provided co-operation with the main bodies of reference at the NPL and British Standards in the understanding and publication of terms and definition of measurement.

With the in house accumulation of knowledge over the 45 years it now has over 175 man years of in house expertise and experience on which to benefit from, and which in turn YOU the customer also benefits from.

This is reflected in the services it now has to offer, including the manufacture of its unique DuraGrade gauge blocks, Interferometry, Calibration by comparison, and Custom lapping service.

Custom Lapping

The custom lapping capability provides the ability to manufacture a range of products across the whole spectrum of manufacturing from automotive, aerospace, pharmaceutical, media, and others. The size limit is dependant upon the degree of accuracy required, up to 350mm is available, with up to 150 mm diameter for the sub micron accuracy in flatness and parallelism.
